TASTING NOTES: BLACKCURRANT | ALMOND

Another delicious coffee from Colombia’ Central Andes region, whom we have had coffee from for the past 5 years.

Coffee farmers in Tolima are dedicated and traditional. In some areas, their infrastructure is not as developed as in other regions because of the history of conflict. This is the region where FARC guerrilla originated and therefore, communities all across Tolima experienced the cruelest years of conflict in Colombia. As a result, and despite exceptional growing conditions, many farmers were isolated from access to extension services, Agri-inouts and thriving markets for their coffee.

Recent years have seen change, particularly with the emergence of speciality coffee markets. Coffee is seen as an engine for progress: women and youth are highly involved, the quality potential is very high due to the terroir and climate and there is a natural niche for organic production due to traditional farming practices and a lack of reliance on inorganic fertilisers.
